Government Technology
A story by Government Technology featured the work that Colby’s Davis Institute for Artificial Intelligence and Halloran Lab for Entrepreneurship are doing to prepare students for using AI in a wide range of career fields. The article referenced the College’s focus on getting “more students interested in AI technologies and related career paths in order to build AI literacy as early as possible.”
In CNET, a leading global technology publication, Alison Bates, assistant professor of environmental studies at Colby, explained state policies around power purchase agreements and utilities regulation among energy systems in the U.S.

The Kennebec Journal promoted a talk by Nikky-Guninder Kaur Singh, Crawford Professor of Religious Studies at Colby, on the role of Indian art, literature, and film as a glue for global connections ahead of the 37th annual Camden Conference, “INDIA: Rising Ambitions, Challenges at Home.”

NPR
NPR’s Marketplace Morning Report aired two feature segments on Colby and the resurgence of Waterville. While the stories included a range of interviews, the first segment featured President David A. Greene, who talked about investing in the city, not for profit, but "to help stimulate something better for the community."
The second piece focused on the role of the arts, and highlighted the Gordon Center for Creative and Performing Arts, noting that it is a “complex you might expect in a top 10 city,” and will help establish the area "as the arts capital of northern New England."

The Portland Press Herald, Maine’s leading newspaper, featured Colby’s Happy Days Childcare and Learning Center as an example of how employers are stepping up to find effective solutions that will attract and retain working parents amid the ongoing child care crisis.

The College’s announcement regarding this year’s Lovejoy Award recipient received shout-outs in the New York Times’ Europe Daily Briefing as well as its popular The Morning newsletter.

Portland Press Herald
Assistant Professor of Chemistry Greg Drozd was featured in a number of stories about the impact of wildfires on climate change, including the Portland Press Herald. The article highlighted his important research on the growing impact of brown carbon in wildfire smoke, and how it may be absorbing more sunlight and creating more heat than originally thought. Local Bangor broadcast, WFVX Fox-22, came to campus to highlight Drozd's lab.

Morning Sentinel
The Morning Sentinel highlighted Colby’s football team ahead of the 2023 season, touting its “strong” defensive unit and varsity returners. “I don’t think we’ve had a bad practice. It’s really been outstanding to see how much progress we’ve made,” said Jack Cosgrove, Colby’s Dick McGee Head Coach for Colby Football.
Colby Museum’s Painted: Our Bodies, Hearts, and Village exhibition was highlighted once again in the Boston Globe’s Sept. 6 edition of “Things to do around Boston this weekend.”

A front-page article in the Sunday edition of the Portland Press Herald featured Colby's Island Campus. The story, which included a range of students, faculty, and staff, focused on how the College is "working carefully to expand its programming” on the islands, that they present "an endless amount of possibilities,” and that research on the islands "could not happen the way it's happening" without them.
