Assistant Professor of Chemistry Greg Drozd was featured in a number of stories about the impact of wildfires on climate change, including the Portland Press Herald. The article highlighted his important research on the growing impact of brown carbon in wildfire smoke, and how it may be absorbing more sunlight and creating more heat than originally thought. Local Bangor broadcast, WFVX Fox-22, came to campus to highlight Drozd's lab.

Morning Sentinel
The Morning Sentinel highlighted Colby’s football team ahead of the 2023 season, touting its “strong” defensive unit and varsity returners. “I don’t think we’ve had a bad practice. It’s really been outstanding to see how much progress we’ve made,” said Jack Cosgrove, Colby’s Dick McGee Head Coach for Colby Football.

Colby Museum’s Painted: Our Bodies, Hearts, and Village exhibition was highlighted once again in the Boston Globe’s Sept. 6 edition of “Things to do around Boston this weekend.”
Portland Press Herald
A front-page article in the Sunday edition of the Portland Press Herald featured Colby's Island Campus. The story, which included a range of students, faculty, and staff, focused on how the College is "working carefully to expand its programming” on the islands, that they present "an endless amount of possibilities,” and that research on the islands "could not happen the way it's happening" without them.
Camp Wire
The podcast Camp Wire talked to Professor of Mathematics Scott Taylor (episode 63) about his innovative summer day camp—Sum Camp—that combines math, the arts, movement, and games to help instill a basic sense of numeracy in area public school elementary children who struggle with math.
Down East
In an expansive feature, Down East magazine highlighted the revitalization of downtown Waterville and its impacts on the community. Pointing to Colby’s downtown residence hall, students are now “spending money downtown” and “they’re engaged in the community, doing civic work as part of their academic requirements,” said Brian Clark, vice president of planning at Colby.
Financial Times
Colby’s efforts surrounding the revitalization of Waterville were highlighted in a story by the Financial Times about an insider’s guide to Maine. The article noted how the College has “completely reinvigorated this area” and that “the Colby Art Museum is truly world-class.”

The soon-to-open Gordon Center for Creative and Performing Arts was a front-page story in Maine newspapers this past week. In the article, President David A. Greene highlighted the “highly flexible spaces … for all different types of arts disciplines” and a design that presents a “welcoming and creative space,” while Brian Clark, vice president of planning and strategy, noted that “there’s nothing like this in New England.”

Maine’s U.S. Rep. Chellie Pingree and Chairwoman of the National Endowment for the Arts Maria Rosario Jackson joined President David A. Greene for a tour of the downtown Paul J. Schupf Art Center and newly opened Gordon Center for Creative and Performing Arts, the Portland Press Herald reported.
