Creating a Mikvah at Beth Israel Congregation in Waterville, Maine

Colby woodsmen and rugby teams joined the Center for Small Town Jewish Life to harvest lake ice for a kosher mikvah (a Jewish ritual bath) at Beth Israel Congregation in Waterville. The ritual requires “mayim chayim,” or living water, from a natural source.

Students Monitor Maine’s Water for Traces of Bacteria

Sam Lerner ’25 and Emma Jones ’25 received hands-on research experience monitoring water quality through an internship with the Shaw Institute in Blue Hill, Maine. The students tested Maine’s coastal waters for traces of bacteria.
