An article published by the Portland Press Herald about worker training programs at community colleges included commentary from Adam Howard, professor of education, who pointed out that “these programs are offering upward economic mobility, but only to a certain extent.”

Maine Public
Maine Public did a segment about the new images from the Webb telescope and invited Elizabeth McGrath, the Clare Boothe Luce Associate Professor of Physics, and Dalibor Kocevski, associate professor of physics and astronomy, to talk about how the findings are impacting their research.
WABI-TV covered the event honoring the former Levine’s clothing store with the unveiling of a plaque that names Levine’s Park in Waterville. WABI reported that Levine’s was “known internationally” and has “a strong connection to Colby College and the students who came from all over the world.”

WFVX Fox Bangor
WFVX Bangor, an ABC TV affiliate, interviewed Professor of Art Véronique Plesch about her research on Maine’s South Solon Meeting House, which is covered in frescoes. “The interesting thing about these frescoes, which were done by contemporary artists, is they were given free reign about the topic they covered. The only rule is it had to be religious,” she said. This fall, Plesch will teach a class that will create a website based on research about the frescoes.

Architizer
Architizer published a story about Colby’s Harold Alfond Athletics and Recreation Center (HAARC), noting that it is “rooted in Colby’s guiding ethos and values, supporting individual and collective growth through physical and mental health, and encouraging teamwork and community through sport and competition.” HAARC was also included in the shortlist of World Architecture Festival Awards, which highlights “the most bold, beautiful and innovative projects from around the world.”
In an article discussing Travel + Leisure magazine’s recent featured story on Colby’s Lockwood Hotel, Mainebiz connected the hotel with Waterville’s revitalization, noting that city officials are excited to see “some national press about the pending opening and all the investments in downtown.”

Boston Globe
In the story about things to do around Boston, the Boston Globe highlighted the Colby Museum’s Andrew Wyeth: Life and Death exhibition, commenting that it “is the first public presentation of recently rediscovered drawings that Wyeth made in the 1990s of his own funeral,” which creates “a deeper look at the nature of artistic meditation on mortality.”

Travel + Leisure
Travel + Leisure magazine published an extensive article about the Lockwood Hotel and its connection to Colby, noting that, “By creating places for locals and those affiliated with the college, this initiative aims to improve quality of life downtown, while also transforming the city into an arts and culture destination.”
A Yahoo News story about a federally funded harm reduction program in rural Maine mentioned the project’s collaboration with Colby to “test drug samples,” which helps researchers “learn more about the contaminants circulating in Maine's drug supplies.”
Both Yahoo News and Cannabis News mentioned Colby student researchers’ help with the analysis of Maine’s recreational cannabis’s estimated growth rate, which suggests that “it's not hard to figure out where the industry is headed.” A Mainebiz article discussing the cannabis marketplace included commentary by Michael Donihue ’79, the Herbert E. Wadsworth Professor of Economics, who pointed out that the recreational cannabis industry is “a small-business engine of economic growth” and that “it had a dramatic rise in just the first year.”
