Central Maine newspapers wrote about Colby and Waterville beginning “a new phase of envisioning how the area around downtown might look in the future.” The piece noted that Colby will fund phase two of the revitalization planning process and that the whole community will provide input. An article in the Maine Monitor about a decline in Maine’s religious services was picked-up by a variety of media outlets including MSN, the Bangor Daily News, the Sun Journal, and Central Maine Newspapers. The story included commentary from Damon Mayrl, associate professor of sociology, who said that “there is no one reason for the decline locally and nationally,” and that “as religious institutions close, the communities they serve could start to be negatively impacted.”

WFVX Fox Bangor
WFVX Bangor, an ABC TV affiliate, interviewed Professor of Art Véronique Plesch about her research on Maine’s South Solon Meeting House, which is covered in frescoes. “The interesting thing about these frescoes, which were done by contemporary artists, is they were given free reign about the topic they covered. The only rule is it had to be religious,” she said. This fall, Plesch will teach a class that will create a website based on research about the frescoes.

Architizer
Architizer published a story about Colby’s Harold Alfond Athletics and Recreation Center (HAARC), noting that it is “rooted in Colby’s guiding ethos and values, supporting individual and collective growth through physical and mental health, and encouraging teamwork and community through sport and competition.” HAARC was also included in the shortlist of World Architecture Festival Awards, which highlights “the most bold, beautiful and innovative projects from around the world.”
