Winifred Tate, associate professor of anthropology, remarked that, “Volunteers have documented more than 100 arraignments in Kennebec County district courts” and that this “effort is especially important in Maine because most courts in the state don't keep online records. And most cases are settled through plea deals.”
In an article discussing caste discrimination in large tech companies, NBC News included comments from Sonja Thomas, associate professor of women's, gender, and sexuality studies. “If you don’t have recognition of a form of discrimination that’s happening, there’s little recourse.” she pointed out. “You can’t even bring a complaint, and the burden of proof is always going to be on the survivor.”
