Maine Public
Visiting Assistant Professor of Government Tizoc Chavez spoke with Maine Calling host Jennifer Rooks during a segment on NPR affiliate Maine Public. The segment focused on the geopolitical impacts of the Russian invasion of Ukraine and how other nations are responding.
WVFX Fox-22 shared that Colby men’s hockey, a nationally ranked sport, will be the host of the NESCAC playoffs on March 5. “So happy for the guys. They’ve been playing so very well. We finished the season as regular-season champs in the NESCAC–very hard to do. [We] haven’t done that in 14 years,” said men’s hockey Head Coach Blaise MacDonald.

Morning Sentinel
The Morning Sentinel shared the news of four 10,000-square-foot modular residence halls, which will be built to the east of Johnson Pond on Colby’s campus. The buildings will be able to house 200 students and will include apartments for faculty members.
Assistant Professor of Environmental Studies Gail Carlson was interviewed by Boise State Public Radio about her research on “forever chemicals” known as PFAS that have been used in ski wax. The story noted how her work has helped drive changes in the sport, and that the area where she’s been conducting research has recently shown “hundreds of times less PFAS contamination” versus two years ago.

A recent Downeast article highlighted Waterville’s newest restaurant, Front & Main, which is located in Colby’s Lockwood Hotel. The magazine article stated that the restaurant and hotel are “part of the school’s tens-of-millions-of-dollars investment in revitalizing the city’s downtown.”

The Portland Press Herald shared the news of Peter and Paula Lunder’s recent gift to the Colby Museum of Art. “A rare, 40-inch bronze sculpture of Abraham Lincoln modeled after a famed 12-foot statue that’s been on display in a Chicago park since the late 19th century will soon be part of the Lunder Collection at the Colby College Museum of Art,” the article stated. The story noted that the College plans to utilize the islands to "expand its activities to multidisciplinary programs that will combine bird research and climate monitoring with studies of sculpture, film, and visual arts."

The New York Times wrote a dynamic feature article on how Colby is the new steward of two historical islands off the coast of Maine. The story noted how the College could “breathe new life” into Allen and Benner islands, and that Colby is “adding a 500-acre island campus” but also “playing an instrumental role in carrying forward the complex Wyeth legacy.”
