Colby President David A. Greene has appointed Associate Vice President for College Advancement Jane Phillips ’01 as vice president for College advancement and Senior Philanthropic Advisor Sandy Colhoun ’91 as chief campaign officer, both effective April 1.

In her new role, Phillips will oversee the Advancement Division and serve on the president’s leadership team. Colhoun will lead Colby’s comprehensive campaign, Dare Northward—the largest campaign in the history of the liberal arts.

“Colby is fortunate to have Jane and Sandy leading our efforts to garner support for the extraordinary education at the College,” said Greene. “Their efforts will be critical to our ability to secure the resources necessary to build on our distinctive academic programs and ambitious institutional priorities.”

The promotions follow the announcement last month that current Vice President for College Advancement Dan Lugo will become the next president of Queens University of Charlotte this summer.

Phillips joined the advancement staff in 2018 after having led the Foundation for Maine’s Community Colleges for several years. Prior to that she worked in development at Yale University, New York University, and the Smithsonian Institution. At Colby she studied art history and government, and she later earned a master’s degree in visual arts administration from NYU.

“Today’s Colby students are so engaging, diverse, and accomplished that it fills me with pride as an alumna,” she said. “The opportunity to help Colby provide meaningful opportunities and outcomes for students—at a time when the institution is reaching impressive new heights in the liberal arts—is an incredible privilege.”

Colhoun arrived at Colby in 2016 after serving as director of development at New Hampton School for more than a decade. Prior to that he worked at Tabor Academy, following an earlier career in journalism. He studied government at Colby and received a master’s degree in journalism from the University of Missouri.

“Colby’s history is extraordinary, but there has never been a more dynamic and exciting time for the College than today,” said Colhoun. “As an alumnus, I am honored to take on this leadership role as Colby students, alumni, parents, and friends are answering the call to support the College in unprecedented ways.”

Colby launched its campaign in 2017 and has, to date, raised $438 million toward its $750-million goal. These efforts are already supporting deeper connections between the College and the world and an inclusive experience for students from all backgrounds.
